PM Confirms Cambodia-Korea Friendship Bridge Will Connect Phnom Penh to Svay Chrum District

KANDAL: Prime Minister Hun Sen confirmed today that there are two options that Cambodia has proposed to the Republic of Korea regarding the construction of a bridge to Svay Chrum district in Svay Rieng province, from Phnom Penh through Chroy Changvar district.

He made this confirmation while speaking at the inauguration ceremony of National Road 21 from Takhmao to the Vietnamese border on the morning of Wednesday, 23 March 2022.

He said that the first option is to build the bridge from Chroy Changvar to Svay Chrum district, and the second option is to build a shorter bridge from the Phnom Penh night market to Chroy Changvar district, and then another one from Chroy Changvar to Svay Chrum district.

He added that these bridges will be constructed as cable-stayed bridges, and he hopes that the new President of the Republic of Korea will support Cambodia’s proposed choices.

“The point we have made is the benefit of establishing diplomatic ties between Cambodia and Korea, which I have been struggling to achieve, but I am very proud to establish Cambodia-Korea relations,” said the Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Hun Sen was the one who pushed for the re-establishment of Cambodian relations in 1997.
